Disha” is a Not for Profit Australian organization and its primary objective is to raise funds for worthwhile causes. Striving to bring together like minded people, Disha’s plan is to foster involvement in the community’s needs especially cancer treatment.
Each year, DISHA hosts a gala fundraising ball in Melbourne to raise funds for Divisions of Hospitals which are involved in treatment of Cancer. These balls are big 'musts' on the local social calendars and attract reputable Australian businessmen and Professionals in Melbourne. These are organised by Fund raising Committees, made up of Disha’s Founders and Volunteer team and other Friends. They raise significant amounts for Disha through ticket sales, sponsorships and charity auctions on the night. Disha has raised more than $50,000 in the last 2 years and we have successfully contributed in a tangible way to various causes.
Disha is not Government subsidized and is entirely dependent on Sponsorship and Fundraising.
Disha has always believed in serving the mankind and this vision inspired Disha to be a part of the charity appeal for the families of 3 Indian students who were burnt to death this year. Disha donated $1000 towards this appeal and helped the families of those students back in India.
Every member of the Disha Team, from founders to the various volunteer teams, is educated in the objectives and focus of Disha and they play a vital role by covering all administration and management costs ensuring every cent donated to DISHA can be spent on programs sponsored by us.
Disha was successfully launched in August 2006 with a Dinner Dance, “a Bollywood Extravaganza” and $24000 was raised. The raised amount was donated equally to the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit of the Royal Melbourne Hospital and The Alfred Foundation for Research and Equipment of Lung Cancer.
On September 9th 2007 all three hundred guests raised their glasses during the “Spring Champagne Brunch” held at Melbourne Park. To celebrate the flavour of the month, Disha had “One Day in September” in Melbourne where all the guests dressed in their footy colours in keeping with the footy theme. All funds raised, being $25000, were donated to The Alfred Foundation, Mental Health Institute of Victoria and Royal Melbourne Hospital.
This year on September 20th 2008, Disha hosted an Annual Gala Fundraising event at the Hilton on the Park. The evening was highlighted with scintillating dance performances and toe tapping music from around the world. Other attractions of the evening were raffles, auctions and DJ’s groovy music. One of the nominated charities for this year is Royal Women’s Hospital for Ovarian Cancer.
